WELSH GOVERNMENT: INTERVENE AND PROVIDE FUNDING TO UPGRADE YSBYTY YSTRAD FAWR

When Caerphilly District Miners’ Hospital was closed, people were promised that Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr would be its modern replacement.

That promise was broken. Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr has no consultant-led A&E department. Instead, residents are forced to travel miles to Newport, Cwmbran, or Cardiff when seconds matter in a life-or-death emergency.

In addition, reduced opening hours at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr’s minor injuries unit became permanent in 2024—a further blow to residents in the area.

This is unacceptable. Local people were promised better, and our communities deserve better. It’s time to put patients first.

No more excuses—the Welsh Government should intervene and provide funding to upgrade Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr.
